Never mind the bus stops

This idea, which I have been working on in my sketchbook, attempts to get across the tedium of the British Public transport system, or at least the waiting part. Thus, I propose this to be a realistic public transport simulator incorporating a bus stop setup complete with sign and timetable (buses come three at a time every hour or something) and video projection substituting for a busy road.

The irony, or some might say reality of the situation is that the person never actually is able to catch any of the buses that go past on screen every couple of minutes. When standing up they only ever whizz past even if they stick their arm out (which actually doesn't do anything) and when sitting down they do stop only for them to drive off again when you stand up. The video is activated by a pressure pad placed on the bus stop seat (shown in this diagram to be a comfy chair but I want to have a harder surface for people to sit on - adds to the realism of the installation).

Maybe I could extend this to include a shelter half smashed in to further the overall feel of the thing. This would come complete with vandalised/graffiti on panels and newspaper with used coffee cup next to it. Perhaps I could also make a guest appearance as a tramp.

This is a good idea - the unreachable - but i would lose the seat idea and maybe concentrate on the waiting bus that drives off as you approach the projection. Then the stop is empty, people gather and wit, but nothing comes until you walk away, and so on.

dammit, i wanna do it now!

but the great thing is it triggers a very strong emotional response = frustration, but in a humourous way. It's one we all know from experience.

Simple but good. would ork better with a infra-red detector?
